There is a difference between a Used Car, a "Dealership Certified" Used Car, and a Certified Pre-Owned INFINITI. This page explains all three very clearly; you should know the difference before starting your search. If at any time you have a question, please contact one of our specialists right away.

What does "INFINITI Certified Pre-Owned" mean?


An 'INFINITI Certified' pre-owned vehicle has a high set of standards to meet before qualifying for that title. It is the most confident choice for the used car buyer as it is not only backed by the dealership, but by the Infiniti brand as well.

The road to Certification starts with our people. A Sales Manager or a member of our Trade-In Center management team personally evaluates each used INFINITI as a candidate for Certification. They look through the whole car from tip to tail through the eyes of its next owner; it's obvious which cars have been loved and which have been thrashed. Only the loved can move on to the next step.

Next, the car has to pass these factory rules:

  1. The car must have less than 60,000 miles.
  2. The car must be less than four years old (from the time its original dealer first serviced it).
  3. The car has to have a clean CARFAX report, meaning no major known issues.

If the car meets these minimums then it's on to the Service Department. Only factory-authorized technicians who have been highly trained and specialize on INFINITI may make a Certification inspection. When they do, they use a 150+ point checklist provided by INFINITI USA. This rigorous inspection far exceeds the basic safety inspection performed on most used cars - it focuses on safety, functionality, appearance, and ownership experience. Any items that do not pass the checklist are either repaired or replaced - or the whole vehicle is rejected and may not earn Certification. If it does pass, the vehicle is reconditioned with only Genuine INFINITI Parts, road-tested, and meticulously detailed.

When you look at and test drive one of our INFINITI Certified Pre-Owned cars in Orange County, it is part of our process to present you with a packet that we assemble for each of our certified cars. This is not required of INFINITI dealerships - we do it for your benefit. It includes:

  • The CARFAX report, which shows if the car has any known repairs or other issues.
  • A NMVTIS report (The National Motor Vehicle Title Information System) - this is a system similar to CARFAX, but run by a government agency instead of a private corporation.
  • A DMV registration report so you know when the vehicle tags are due.

  • A Buyers Guide explaining the Warranty Coverage.
  • A 2nd Master Key.

INFINITI Certified Warranty Details and Benefits


Every Certified INFINITI at our Orange County Infiniti dealership comes with the remaining balance of its factory warranty which starts at the first "In-Service Date". This means the date from which the vehicle was delivered to an Infiniti dealer and checked in through the service department. Remember, a 2020 Model Year vehicle could be received by the dealership as early as autumn of 2019 or as late as the summer of 2020. Therefore the only reliable start date is the first 'In-Service' date.

The INFINITI Certified Limited Warranty extends to 6 years (from In-Service) or 100,000 miles - whichever occurs first. It is a limited warranty, meaning only key parts of the vehicle are covered - it is focused on critical vehicle systems, not wear-and-tear items. There is a $50 deductible per visit and there is no maximum to the number of visits during the warranty period.

Included is 24-hour roadside assistance including lockout, battery, flat tire, and fuel support. Towing assistance and Trip Interruption are also provided. Trip Interruption means that if you are on a long-distance drive and you experience a problem that causes you to detour, INFINITI will partially or fully compensate you for your hotel and meal accommodations that were accrued as a result.

There is also an option, at your expense, to extend the coverage up to 8 years or 120,000 miles if you're the kind of owner that only likes to change cars once a decade. Our specialists can fill you in on this when you come to visit or over the phone.

What is a "Dealership Certified" Used Car?


Since there is some attraction to the word 'Certified' and the confidence it inspires, some dealerships have created their own vehicle certification program so that they can use the term 'Certified' when describing their cars. This is not to be confused with a used car that is an "INFINITI Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle".

A car that is 'Dealership Certified' may have some additional condition requirements at the time of its safety inspection and may be covered by some kind of guarantee - this guarantee is provided at the dealerships' discretion only and is only valid with that place of business.

We do not label our vehicles 'Dealership Certified', simply because we do not want to confuse our clients. If you're buying a used car from us and it says 'Certified' on it, it means that the car is "INFINITI Certified Pre-Owned" and comes with all of the benefits you are entitled to.

What is a "Used Car"?


Any Used Car at our dealership must receive a safety inspection by a trained technician before being sold. There are two primary areas of concern: tires and brakes. Both must be in acceptable condition. We stock Used Cars normally as we often have clients in need of vehicles for their student-teenagers, or in need of some extra wheels for getting around.

Our Used Cars in Orange County comes in two flavors: "As-Is", and "With Warranty" - both must pass their safety inspection. As-Is vehicles may need repairs and they are the responsibility of the buyer. With Warranty means that the car either has a remaining balance of its factory warranty or has some kind of extended service contract. In either case, the buyer would settle any repairs with the manufacturer or with the contract company.
